GO-KART FUN TRACK NOW OPEN!

The well-known motorcycle raceway, Champion Speedway, at the end of RT 434 on East River Drive in Owego, is set to open an all-new go-kart fun track!

The new go-kart track is a concrete oval slick track very similar to the indoor track that ran for years at Northgate speedway in Binghamton. The concession go-karts, which look like miniature formula one race cars, slide sideways around the turns and are a blast for people of all ages. Champion Speedway will have 8-10 karts in operation including a two-seater for parents wishing to take smaller children for a ride.

The new track is much-needed after the closure of Northgate several years ago as there have been no tracks in the local area for quite some time now. Champion Speedway not only plans to have it open during its Saturday evening motorcycle and ATV race nights but also the rest of the week. At present weekday hours are expected to be 3pm until 11pm and Noon until 11pm on the weekends with it being open slightly later on nights of the motorcycle races. Cost per ride will only be $5.00 and the height limit for young children will be 54 inches.

Champion Speedway also plays host to BMX racing on Wednesdays nights with some special weekend events and the new go-kart track should be a great addition to the park which also includes a motocross practice track.

Champion's motorcycle and ATV race program revs into high gear for August and September with some big events...the track is to play host to the NIKSTOCK music festival the weekend of August 12-14 and is planning a huge legends of Speedway Reunion event on August 28th which will feature many of the old faces who particpated and worked at the facility when it was drawing thousands of spectators and was front page news in the 70's and 80's. The action all culmintaes for 2010 on labor day weekend in September as the track puts on the US Open National Speedway Championships. The best racers from the US and Canada will be present including 5 high profile world class riders from the West Coast. It will be a show you won't want to miss!
